Dr Himalee Abeya

She is a Psychiatrist with MBBS (Hons), FRANZCP and MD (Psych) qualifications.
Dr Abeya excelled academically, winning gold medals in both her MBBS and MD examinations. She has also worked as a lecturer in psychiatry, shortly after completing her medical studies and pursued a career in academia along with her clinical work at the time. She has tutored medical students at the Northern Medical School, University of Sydney.
Her experience is wide and varied. Dr Abeya has previously worked in the public sector as a staff specialist psychiatrist- with the Northern Sydney Area Health Service and as a VMO Psychiatrist at Cumberland Westmead hospital. Dr Abeya was the Senior Psychiatrist for NSW and ACT at Medibank Health Solutions. This role involved teaching ,as well as taking a leadership role within the organization.
Dr Abeya has experience working in the medico-legal field as an Independent Medical assessor for Independent Medical Opinions (IMO), Sydney and is qualified as a NSW Work Cover Assessor of Permanent Impairment, an MAA Assessor of Permanent Impairment and a Comcare Assessor of Permanent Impairment.
In addition to her private practice at Bondi Junction , Dr Abeya currently consults as an occupational psychiatrist to Sonic Healthplus and Immex . Her role entails conducting Fitness for Duty (FFD) assessments and Independent Medical Examinations (IME’s) for numerous government departments and private organisations . She is also on the panel of specialist experts at ICARE where she does insurance file reviews and provides strategic advice on occupational and workplace health related matters. Dr Abeya has been nominated as a guest speaker for the Medical Officers of the Commonwealth Annual Conference .
Her recent teaching experience includes:
- Lectures for Insurance Claims Managers and Lawyers and later Claims Managers at Australia Post – “Adjustment disorder in the Compensation arena”
- Lectures for Doctors and Allied Health workers at Ryde Hospital on Psychiatric assessment and illness
- Lectures and teaching sessions for Occupational Psychiatrists and Registrars in Psychiatric assessment, Medicolegal Issues, Management of Psychiatric illness.
